Why you shouldn’t be a member of the swedish church
Are you a member of the swedish church? I’m going to give you some pros and cons about being a member
One of the most convincing arguments – and maybe the only one you’ll ever need – for leaving the church would be the church tax.
The average swede works for about 45 years and earns somewhere around 200 000:- – 250 000 a year.. And depending on you annual earnings you give an ammount of money to the church, let us say that from your 200 000:- you give 2000:- a year, which comes to about
100 000:- in 45. So why should you be a member of the church, there is two things I can come to think of.
● You can get married in the church.
● You will be able to baptise your child.
So lets look a bit closer at these two things. The “get married in church” thing is really not true, even if your not a member of the church you will still be able to get married there, that’s if your partner is a member. And if neither one of you is a member you can still get married by the government, and then you will save about 200 000:- thats sounds pretty good doesn’t it?And as for getting your child baptised. Yes of course you can, but is it really right to force your own child into a religion that they know nothing about, and maybe dont even whant to be a part of?
Now you may think that 2000:-/year in church tax doesn’t sound that much, but think of it in a different way. If you really don’t care where your 2000:- goes, why don’t give it to somebody who needs it? Because the swedish church doesn’t need any more money, the swedish church is one of the richest organisations in sweden and they own the highest percent of forest in our country. And on top of this they take about 2000:- in tax from about 4 millions swedish workers each year. Care to do some math about that?
4 000 000 * 2000:- = 8 000 000 000:-
That’s alot of money, one can wonder where all that money goes.So the only really good reason i can come to think of why you should be a member of the Swedish chuch, is that it’s kind of a culture for the swedish people to go to church. And alot of the swedes are afraid of that people will look down on you if you aren’t baptised. And a lot of people think it feels good to be a part of something, and always have somewhere to go and talk. Do you really think it’s a fair sum to pay when you will get a professional psychologist alot cheaper than 100 000:-.
And is 2000:-/year a fair members fee if you really don’t get anything else than belonging? So what I’m really trying to tell you is that if you dont “feel” anything for the church, why pay so much money to them? And why does parents force their own children into a religion they don’t know anything about, just because it’s a tradition?!
So is there any solution to this? Should the swedish church stop taking money from their members, or should the people that don’t want to pay just leave the church?
Do you really have to pay to pray?
