What brands of soil are recommended here (easily obtained from, say, Plantagen, K-Rauta, etc.)

    Can you get dolomite lime?

    Big bags of perlite?

    Square (cheap) pots…

    tia!

hasselfors “p-jord” seams to be popular and pretty easy to obtain…

you should be able to get both dolomite lime, perlite and pots, you may need to visit a couple of different shops (like plantagen, krauta, also smaller greenhouse and gardening stores). (dolomite lime is called just “kalk” or “dolomit kalk”).

I know for certain that Plantagen got all of the above!
(Both dolomite lime and perlite, pots and of course different mixes of Hasselfors) :)

    liquid “blå korn” works…

I would rather order specialized nutrients from eg http://www.head-nature.com

Yep, flytande blåkorn is good in veg and orkidénäring (orchid nutrition) in the flower phase.
But, as z0rdim said, it’s always better to order “real” nutrients from H&N. :)

I guess a 125 liter bag of perlite counts as big… got it from “granngården”.
If they don’t have it in stock, you should be quite able to order it in, for a later pickup.

Dolomite lime is no longer a stock item att granngården, but I think they have that as well as a order-in product.

    Best regards,

    thanks!

are the leka kulor found in all the plant shops around here suitable for use in a hydro flood table? I mean, to surround all my larger grodan/rockwool cubes? Seems to be fine and readily available.

With a very few exceptions Yes.

Just remember to wash ’em good before you use them. Some use PH-balanced water, I don’t know if it is a must but hey it can’t hurt. 😉

If you are worried, you can soak them in water and measure the before and after PH-value. This will give you a definite answer!

    great, thanks!

I guess this next one is a soil-less question, and therefore off-topic, but here goes.

Sources for large (say, 14 – 22 liter), opaque plastic buckets with lids….

    Try IKEA :)

I’m not sure how big boxes they have, but I’ve seen fairly big ones that are made for storage under your bed.

I’m looking for buckets with lids, like for DWC. Hinkar.

I was actually in IKEA last evening and found their storage tubs for another project, but they are, unfortunately, not opaque. So, still looking for those as well.

Stores like K-Rauta, ÖoB (Överskottsbolaget), and possibly Rusta are sure to have what you’re looking for.

You can find some in “Clasohlson”, they got many stores and a good homepage. Clasohlson.se

And if you find the perfect one but it isn’t opaque, you can always buy a roll of “duct tape” and in 5min you will have a perfect sized tub, without any chance of light getting to the water inside.

Also you can paint them, just some sandpaper (can do without) and a spraycan. It isn’t hard or especially messy.

    Just some tips for ya

EDIT: Paint the OUTSIDE of the tub only, forgot that part :P

I’d prefer painting with a brush. Sure, it takes a bit longer to dry but spray paint sticks just about to everything else than the object you’re spraying. But then again I suck at spray painting :|

    I’d prefer not painting. ;)

In the states you cannot swing a dead cat without finding one of these in a hardware/home store. I’m kind of surprised by the lack of merchandise at the local stores here. Not complaining, just surprised. I guess it’s lagom. :D
