Hungary: Civil disobedience Movement to stop war on drug users
March 31, Budapest (from Drugreporter.net) – Over the last few weeks, a series of drug users’ surrender actions were organized to show failure of existing drug laws in Hungary and to press the government to decriminalize personal use of narcotics. The protest actions were initiated by the Hemp Seed Association, an NGO advocating drug users’ rights and drug policy reform in Hungary; three activists, escorted by the lawyers of the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union, went to the Budapest Police Headquarter to report about their drug use. Disturbance and shock were the first reaction of police officers witnessed by at least ten cameras and more than 30 journalists. Police soon hid the young men from journalists to record their statements. Later, the three activists were transferred to a police laboratory to subject them to urinary analysis. They were released after three hours. To know more please visit here.
